Art Deco lounge chair in original velvet, Belgium circa 1930
A highly expressive Belgian Art Deco lounge chair dating from circa 1930.
The chair features a bold, enveloping silhouette composed of rounded side panels, broad waterfall-shaped armrests and a distinctive semicircular backrest. Its compact proportions are balanced by the substantial sculptural construction, giving the chair a strong architectural presence while retaining the comfort and intimacy of traditional club seating.
The chair retains its original period velvet upholstery in a warm beige to mocha tone. The reflective pile creates subtle variations from pale beige and muted gold to deeper caramel-brown, depending on the light, viewing angle and direction of the fabric. These natural variations accentuate the curved forms and give the chair a rich, atmospheric appearance.
The chairs come from the private residence of the family behind Eperon d’Or, the renowned Belgian shoe factory in Izegem. They originally formed part of a complete matching salon suite together with the corresponding three-seat sofa. Although no maker’s mark was found, the confident design, carefully shaped frame and refined upholstery details indicate high-quality Belgian production.

The internal webbing beneath the seat, which supports the original spring construction, was professionally replaced, and the underside was neatly refinished.
Good original vintage condition with visible signs of age and use consistent with its approximately ninety-year history. The velvet displays fading, tonal variation, scattered marks, light staining and localised surface wear. One of the three available chairs has a small area of damage to the velvet on the backrest. The condition varies slightly between the individual chairs and is clearly documented in the photographs. All chairs remain structurally solid and ready for use.
