Set of Four Zig-Zag Chairs after Gerrit Rietveld

A striking set of four handcrafted Zig-Zag chairs, based on Gerrit Rietveld’s iconic 1930s design.
 
The chairs are constructed from solid wood with a warm, dark stained finish and closely follow the characteristic cantilevered geometry of Rietveld’s Zig-Zag chair. The construction is particularly interesting, with visible slotted metal fasteners, recessed bolts, dovetailed connections and triangular wooden reinforcement blocks at the angled joints.
 
The backrests feature the characteristic horizontal handhold, while the exposed construction and visible joinery give the chairs a distinctly architectural character.
 
Although clearly inspired by Rietveld’s design, the chairs differ in several construction details from documented examples produced by Gerard van de Groenekan and are therefore offered as unattributed handcrafted examples after Gerrit Rietveld.
