Set of two Antonio Citterio lounge chairs, B&B Italia 1993
This rare pair of lounge chairs belongs to the Compagnia delle Filippine collection, designed by Antonio Citterio in 1993 for B&B Italia. Known for his mastery of ergonomics and sculptural form, Citterio created this series for the domestic market, employing an expressive, organic silhouette combined with luxurious hand-woven materials. The result is a chair that is both technically sophisticated and visually striking.
Each chair features a beechwood frame fully wrapped in woven leather straps, a signature element of the collection that lends warmth, tactility, and a distinctive artisanal character. The dramatic flowing seat profile transitions seamlessly into the rear legs, creating an elegant continuous line. Sculpted solid-wood armrests complement the curves of the structure, adding both comfort and refinement. The front legs are capped with aluminium sabots, subtly referencing Citterio’s precision in material detailing.
These examples remain structurally strong and visually impressive. The woven leather shows areas of natural ageing and patina consistent with use, adding authenticity and character to the pieces. Minor wear is visible on several high-contact surfaces, as documented in the photos, but does not compromise integrity or usability.
A rare opportunity to acquire a matched pair from one of Antonio Citterio’s most distinctive and collectible early ’90s designs—pieces that elegantly demonstrate his versatility beyond the office-seating systems for which he is best known.
