Pierre Paulin for Artifort — F156 “Little Oyster” lounge chair, 1959–1960s

This exceptional lounge chair is the rare F156 “Little Oyster” designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort. Introduced in 1959, the F156 is the smaller version of Paulin’s iconic Oyster series. Unlike the larger and more common F157, the F156 was produced for a shorter period, was never reissued, and is therefore significantly rarer on the collectors’ market today. This example is an authentic early edition, true to the original mid-century specifications.

The chair features Paulin’s characteristic sculptural shell, offering an open, embracing form while remaining visually light. The elegantly curved seat rests on its original nickel-plated steel frame, a hallmark of early Artifort production. The proportions of the F156 are more compact and refined, giving it a particularly elegant presence in contemporary interiors.

Very good vintage condition with light, age-appropriate wear.
The nickel-plated frame shows a historical weld repair on one of the support tubes — a common reinforcement seen on early Oyster chairs. The repair is structurally solid and not visible during normal use.
Upholstery is clean and presents well.
