Elegant writing desk designed by Jules Wabbes and produced by Mobilier Universel, Belgium, circa 1960.
 
The desk features a black lacquered plywood top supported by a black lacquered steel frame and a two-drawer pedestal executed in maple veneer. The original cast metal drawer pulls are signed "WABBES", a characteristic detail found on documented examples produced by Mobilier Universel.
 
Jules Wabbes (1919–1974) is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in Belgian post-war design. Renowned for his uncompromising attention to materials, craftsmanship and functionality, his furniture remains highly sought after by collectors and architects worldwide.
 
A pull-out writing surface integrated beneath the top provides additional workspace while preserving the desk's efficient proportions. The exposed metal drawer runners and carefully considered construction reflect Wabbes' commitment to craftsmanship, durability and functionality.
 
The combination of warm maple veneer, black lacquered surfaces and refined metal detailing creates a balanced composition that exemplifies the designer's architectural approach to furniture design. Very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with its age. Light wear and patina to the wood, lacquered surfaces and metal frame.
